Supporting Emotional Wellbeing

At IO Care, emotional wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do.

Many children and young people come to us having experienced trauma, instability, or disrupted relationships. We recognise the profound, lasting impact these challenges can have on emotional development, behaviour, and self-esteem.

Our specialised therapeutic model is designed to do three things: make young people feel emotionally safe, deeply understood, and fully supported.

Our Approach to Therapeutic Care

Healing happens through relationships. That’s why we place a strong emphasis on creating positive, stable connections between young people and our team.

To ensure our care is grounded in the highest standards of trauma-informed practice, we partner with Feeling and Healing, a specialist therapeutic organisation led by Clinical Director Sabrina Maynard.

With her extensive expertise in social work and counselling, Sabrina guides our team in embedding the DDP PACE approach (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy) into the very fabric of our daily care. This framework guides how our team thinks, feels, and communicates, focusing on building trusting relationships through consistency and emotional attunement.

Supporting Emotional Wellbeing

  • Safety First: Help young people feel genuinely safe and secure in their environment.

  • Emotional Resilience: Support emotional regulation and build long-term resilience.

  • Healthy Connections: Encourage positive relationships and open communication.

  • Self-Worth: Promote confidence, a strong sense of identity, and self-esteem.

  • Trauma Reduction: Actively reduce anxiety and behaviours linked to past trauma.

Individualised & Collaborative Support

Every young person is unique. We tailor our care and support plans to fit each individual’s specific needs, strengths, and future goals.

True support doesn't happen in isolation. To ensure a consistent, holistic journey, our team works in close collaboration with our therapeutic partners at Feeling and Healing, alongside a trusted network of external professionals:

  • Local authorities

  • Education providers

  • Mental health professionals

  • Families and support networks

Promoting Positive Futures

We believe that all children and young people deserve the opportunity to succeed, heal, and thrive. Driven by our therapeutic principles, we are committed to supporting both the mental and physical wellbeing of those in our care.

To achieve this, we work closely alongside Future Fit Alternative Provision and their co-founder, Orlando Grant. Orlando brings nearly two decades of experience in exercise, physical activity, and health to our young people. Through this vital collaboration, we help disadvantaged and vulnerable young people build physical resilience, healthy lifestyles, and the lifelong confidence they need to step into a brighter tomorrow.
